Tragedy in San Diego: Private Jet Crash Claims Six Lives, Shakes Community
In the early hours of May 22, 2025, tragedy struck San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood when a Cessna 550 private jet crashed into the heart of the residential community. The aircraft, carrying six individuals, including renowned music talent agent Dave Shapiro and former metalcore drummer-turned-tech professional Daniel Williams, burst into flames upon impact, destroying homes and igniting several vehicles.
The crash occurred around 3:45 a.m., startling residents awake with a massive explosion. Over 100 people were forced to evacuate as fire engulfed at least 10 homes. Miraculously, while eight people on the ground were injured, none of their injuries are reported to be life-threatening.
Tragically, all six passengers aboard the jet are presumed dead. Williams, who had just embarked on a new journey in tech with Apple, had shared his excitement moments before the flight on social media—a sobering reminder of life’s unpredictability.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the cause. Early reports suggest dense fog and a possible collision with power lines may have contributed to the crash.
This heartbreaking event has sent ripples through the local community and the music industry alike. Tributes are pouring in, honoring the lives lost and expressing solidarity with the affected families.
As San Diego mourns, the resilience and unity of the Murphy Canyon neighborhood shine through, with neighbors supporting one another amid the devastation. This tragic moment serves as a solemn reminder of the fragility of life—and the strength of community in the face of loss.
